Website Reviews

Aminé

Portland-based rapper Aminé has a great website that reflects his candid and playful song lyrics. The website is styled so that it looks like an iPad, with a background that is his signature yellow color, icons that serve as links to his social media and music streaming pages, and occasional pop-ups styled as iMessage notifications that are references to his songs. The pop-up in the picture above is a reference to his song Caroline.

Whitney Museum

The website for the Whitney Museum in New York has a very clean, minimalist design that is very user-friendly. Their header is their logo, and it corresponds with the rest of the text, links, and images on the page. Prospective visitors will find it easy to navigate, and enjoy the image/video heavy graphics that display the current exhibitions.

Stay Home Club

Stay Home Club is an online retailer that sells apparel, patches, pins, and stationery by local illustrators. Their website template is identical to many other illustration retailers, and is very user-friendly. Main navigation links are at the top, and more links, including a company description and newsletter subscription, are all the way at the bottom of the page.

Glossier

Glossier, a skincare company, has a website template slightly different from that of Stay Home Club, but is still easy to navigate. There is a loading icon illustration, and when users hover over a picture, the icon changes into miscellaneous illustrations.

Stephen Shore

American photographer Stephen Shore has a very simplified website that displays his work in a straightforward manner. This approach allows his photographs to be the sole focus of the user.
